Welcome back to Pizza Week and let me introduce the Philly Cheesesteak Pizza!
If you like Philly Cheesesteak then you’re in for a treat this week! I have a new pizza recipe I’ve been trying and have fallen head over heels in love (well my tastebuds have)
It’s ………cheesey……the garlic sautéd meat and mushrooms………thinly sliced peppers and onions…….smothered in mozzarella (and provolone if you have it) on a soft and chewy pizza dough. Nuff’ said? Then make the dough and follow the recipe for a treat you won’t forget. So, read on and drool over the pictures for the Philly Cheesesteak Pizza.
The pizza dough is easy to make and can rise while you gather the ingredients. I use an inexpensive steak (or minute steak) or you can even use ground beef. If won’t have the same texture, but will still taste great. White mushrooms, fresh thinly sliced green pepper and white onion. After you slice the mushrooms and meat, cook them in butter with lots of garlic and salt and pepper. If using ground beef, you will need to blot it to take off the moisture before adding the mushrooms and garlic.
I roll or press my pizza dough out on parchment paper because I usually cook it on my pizza stone in a very hot oven. Otherwise you can roll it on the counter on a bit of cornmeal or flour and transfer it to a pizza pan or cookie sheet.
I used the Classico Alfredo sauce but homemade or other brands work just as well. Spreading the cheese on first gives the topping a better chance to cook and the pizza less runny in my experience.
Add the toppings, meat, mushrooms, thinly sliced green pepper and onions. Add a little more cheese on top and slide it into the oven.
If using a pizza stone, slide it onto a large cutting board or paddle first, then slide it carefully onto the pizza stone. You might had to adjust it slightly. If using the stone preheat the oven (and stone) to 500 or more degrees. It should take about 10 minutes or a bit more to bake. If using just a pizza pan preheat to 420. It should take about 15 minutes to cook.
Delicious Philly Cheesesteak Pizza
This is a fun new taste in pizza. Like eating the real thing on a pizza crust. The crust is chewy and the cheese gooey and hot. Dip in ranch, alfredo or pizza sauce for another element of fun.
- 1 Round of Pizza Dough
- 1/2 Cup Alfredo Sauce
- 2 Cups Mozzarella Cheese; Shredded
- 3/4 Cup Steak; thinly sliced
- 10 White Mushrooms
- 1/4 Cup White Onion; thinly sliced
- 2 TBSP Garlic (fresh or powdered)
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 1/2 Green Pepper; thinly sliced
Saute the meat in the garlic and salt and pepper. Add mushrooms and cook until lightly golden.
Roll out the dough onto parchment paper or onto a lightly roll on counter, transfer to pan and finish pressing into shape
Spread Alfredo sauce over dough
Sprinkle 1.5 cups of mozzarella cheese over the dough, saving the rest for the top of the pizza
Sprinkle with the meat and mushrooms, making sure it’s even over the cheese
Scatter sliced green peppers and onions over the pizza
Finish the top with the rest of the cheese
Pop in the oven.
NOTE: If using a pizza stone, preheat the over to 500+ with the stone in it. Transfer the parchment pizza carefully onto a paddle or large cutting board to slide it onto the hot stone in the oven. Don’t be in a rush. Cook for 10 minutes and then check to see if it’s done to your taste. If not, watch closely for a few more minutes
If using a pizza pan, preheat the oven to 420 and slide the pan into the oven. Cook for 15 minutes and then check to see if it’s done to your taste. If not, watch closely for a few more minutes.
